Travel safe, travel far, travel wide, and travel often!
I got the travel bug when I was quite young. My parents took me and my sister out of school and we travelled all over the world. It was an eye-opening experience and, although I love Pakistan, I also enjoy visiting new countries. I don’t get homesick. I just see too many people retire and say, ‘I’m going to take off, travel, and spend time with my family’ and they are just miserable. They end up dying. I pity them, people who work and stay active, and like what they are doing, live longer, in my opinion.
It isn’t unique to enjoy travel, but every human has their own reasons for embarking. Travel can be one of the most rewarding forms of introspection. Like all most travellers, I have seen more than I remember, and remember more than I have seen. Travellers never think that they are foreigners. Personally, I travel to find the similarities amongst humans and to adopt the goodness in others that are lacking in me, in my society. Travelling is seeing; it is implicit that we travel by. I travel light. I think the most important thing is to be in a good mood and enjoy life, wherever you are, and certainly being a Pakistani doesn’t mean that I would travel to see other Pakistanis.
Tourism has undoubtedly helped me to grow as a person, as a man. From travelling, I’ve transformed from social animal to reserved family person. I like to live like the locals, while also hitting the tourist spots. But most importantly, I travel in luxury. I can skip meals and wear the same clothes for three days, but I won’t compromise on hotels and airline. If you travel first class, you think first class and you are more likely to play first-class because when you travel, remember that a foreign country is not designed to make you comfortable. It is designed to make its own people comfortable.
I am always on the move. Travelling for me is not just about moving from one fancy place to another, or booking into one five-star hotel or another. Travelling for me is a spiritual experience. Life is an unfoldment, and the further we travel the more truth we can comprehend. To understand the things that are at our door is the best preparation for understanding those that lie beyond. You do not travel if you are afraid of the unknown; you travel for the unknown that reveals you with yourself. I meet new people, wrap into their culture and enjoy the essence of their being. I take with me the best of their nature. I get to see new places and not just point, shoot and click at what I see on the surface. I look into architecture, history, personalities, and so much more. I get to travel, see the world, meet people and be independent. I feel blessed.
