A morning woven with gratitude and divine promise
A Friday Whisper | Reflection 28

السَّلَامُ عَلَيْكُمْ وَرَحْمَةُ اللَّهِ وَبَرَكَاتُهُ
Ya Allah, Lord of dawn and disperser of darkness, let this morning open before us like the first page of a treasured book, its words inked in mercy and its margins fragrant with hope. Grant us hearts light enough to rise with gratitude and strong enough to carry kindness into every step we take today. Bless our bodies with health that lets us serve, our minds with clarity that keeps us sincere, and our spirits with joy that turns even small breaths into praise.
Whenever I recite the Qur’an, I try to interpret it with my limited knowledge. I find it marvellous beyond words, and I love to share my humble understanding with those who appreciate and have the appetite to taste the wisdom of the Qur’an.
This morning, as the sunlight filters through the sleepy sky, I am drawn to the quiet power of Surah Al-Kausar, the shortest chapter of the Holy Qur’an yet vast as an ocean in meaning. Only three verses, revealed in Makkah, but holding an eternity of wisdom. It came to the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ in days heavy with personal loss, when mockers in Makkah called him “abtar” meaning cut off, because his sons had passed away. Allah’s reply was a promise and a proclamation: “Indeed, We have granted you Al-Kausar.”

Al-Kausar means abundance, goodness in plenty, or the river in Paradise whiter than milk and sweeter than honey, lined with vessels as countless as the stars. This was divine comfort and eternal assurance that no mockery could erase his legacy.
In my understanding, this surah calls upon us to respond to blessings with prayer and sacrifice, reminding us that gratitude is not a feeling alone but an action. It declares that those who mock truth will be forgotten while the truth bearers will live on in the memory of faith. It teaches that abundance is not measured in possessions but in the guidance we carry and the love we share for Allah.
It invites us to pray when we feel the weight of hardship, to let remembrance replace despair, and to trust that the measure of our life is not in the approval of people but in the acceptance of Allah. If we recite it daily, we refresh our souls with the taste of divine promise, reminding ourselves that blessings flow beyond what the world can count.
So today, may we carry its message into our own lives. May we rise above pettiness and mockery. May we anchor ourselves in prayer when winds of hardship blow. May we understand that true abundance lies in faith and that gratitude is a living practice. Let us remember that those who strive for truth will never be cut off, for their legacy is not written in the sand but in the endless river of eternity.

Friday is the crown of the week, a day of mercy multiplied, of prayers that ascend with wings of light, and of gatherings where hearts are polished in remembrance. Jummah Mubarak to all who read this, and may your supplications be answered with the gentleness of rain after a long drought.
May your morning shine like gold dust in the air and your day flow like the tranquil river of Paradise promised in Al-Kausar. May you breathe gratitude with every inhale and release worry with every exhale. May joy find you without you having to chase it and may peace sit with you like an old friend.
Wishing you a radiant good morning to you, may your day be as blessed as your prayers and Jummah Mubarak!
